Kelly’s Story:

Step one – get out of my comfort zone!

Moving to North Carolina a year ago was the best decision I could have made for myself. At first I didn’t have any friends, I wasn’t in school, I wasn’t playing softball, and I wasn’t happy with the way I looked. So, I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to change the way I looked and thought of myself. When I decided I was going to lose weight, I just watched what I ate at first. I ate a very low carb diet, not only did it help me lose weight, but it also helped with my diabetes. Being a type one diabetic, my pancreas doesn’t produce insulin, so I wear a pump on my body that gives me insulin throughout the day on top of what I eat. Once I started to watch what I eat, my blood sugars started to be more regulated and I couldn’t be happier. Diabetes is an ongoing battle, something I will never be able to beat, but it’s something I have learned to deal with, it’s just a part of me.

Ready for CrossFit!

After eating healthy for a couple of months, I was ready to start working out. I just didn’t know where to start or what gym to go to. So, I asked my friend, who also use to be a college athlete, and she told me to try Crossfit. I wasn’t sure about Crossfit and didn’t know much about it, but I was willing to try something different. I looked at a couple of boxes around the area, but no one made me feel as comfortable as CrossFit Northlake.

Eating Healthy + CrossFit + Teammates = RESULTS!

I started off with Northlake Bootcamp until I was more in shape. When I did make the transition over to Crossfit, I was so excited. The workouts are intense and I love how Crossfit incorporates weightlifting within the workout as well. But my favorite part of Crossfit is the aspect of a team. It reminds me of playing softball and how my teammates were there to pick me up and encourage me when I didn’t think I had it in me. Working out and eating healthy are the main components when it comes to losing weight, but a lot people forget about the mental aspect and that is the part I struggled with the most. However, today I can say that I love myself and who I am and that is the most important thing through out my whole journey.
